The objective of this study was to explore the meanings of landscape representation in photographs, personal identities, and cultural values associated with the São Paulo Botanical Garden (JBSP) from the perspective of its visitors. Identifying perceptions and preferences for attributes and cultural values in the landscape is of great interest to Environmental Education and Ecopedagogy. In this regard, using historical and contemporary photographs of the JBSP, methods of image analysis and computer vision were applied to extract relevant elements for investigating visual perceptions and preferences. The Google Cloud Vision® API categorised elements of the photographs, facilitating the understanding of visual content and allowing for the construction of timescapes that were used in interviews with nine participants. Their preferences were interpreted using the Cultural Values Model, which was essential for understanding how people attribute meanings and values to the landscape. The results enabled the creation of a narrative semantics about the representation of the landscape, highlighting the relationships, experiences, and cultural and natural values of the JBSP for its visitors.
