The role of children literature as a tool for reflection and search for solutions to environmental issues

The growing concern with environmental issues has gone beyond the concept of school subject. In this context, Environmental Education fits into the school curriculum as an interdisciplinary theme; thus, it constitutes a form of reflection and of responsible change regarding human values and behavior. Art-Education has become a rich tool for reflection on people’s everyday life and environmental issues. Art is one of the most meaningful tools for an individual’s education; it is fundamental for learning and able to trigger creative processes since it goes beyond traditional ways of knowing and doing. Because literature is a kind of art, it fits into the context and is appropriate as a tool for Environmental Education. Therefore, this research has developed a dialogue with children literature as a tool for reflection, awareness and search for actions and solutions to environmental issues.Downloads
