Environmental education and citizenship work with adolescentes

Abstract

This paper reveals the potential adolescents have to spread citizenship; it reports the experience carried out in an Extension Project called “Becoming an adolescent: relations and reflections upon disciplinarity”, in the Department of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Fundação Universidade Federal do Rio Grande – FURG/RS, from 2001 to 2002. This project aimed at educating adolescents to carry out tasks related to citizenship, education, and health in their social context. The activities were developed at the Centro de Atenção Integral à Criança e ao Adolescente – CAIC, in São José do Norte, RS, Brazil, with 170 students from 12 to 18 years old. We used the methodology proposed by Environmental Education which comprises social, political, economic, and cultural issues.
