This article aims to discuss about the initial formation emphasis proposed by education and extension projects for the 2008 year of the physical education course – graduation, of the Federal University of the Santa Maria (UFSM) and about the students involved in such projects. This is a documentary and exploratory research developed through the data survey, reading and systematization. It was verified that most projects reviewed focuses characteristics and abilities of the knowledge technical rationality model, however, present possible ways and redirections for an initial formation located in the practical rationality model.
