Abstract

This study results from researches conducted from 2005 to 2006 in the preserved area called Algodoal Maiandeua, an island located in Maracanã, in an area known as Zona do Salgado, on the northeastern coast in Pará. It aims at identifying the actions in Environmental Education which were implemented in two communities on the island (Fortalezinha and Mocooca) and at analyzing changes that happened in the habits of these populations after these actions. Data were collected in the field with the use of semi-structured questionnaires, interviews and informal conversations with the local population. They were analyzed to identify actions and changes that occurred in the lives and the environment of the communities that live in that preserved area.
