Abstract

Air pollution is currently recognized as the greatest environmental threat to human health and well-being. Almost the entire world population breathes unhealthily, inhaling high levels of fine particles and nitrogen dioxide. An individual's perception determines the understanding of the environment as a mental process that occurs through perceptive and cognitive means that represent the prior knowledge, values, and judgments of each individual. A bibliometric study was conducted in the Scopus database. For the quantitative analysis of the publications, some indicators were used: Number of articles per year, number of articles per country, journals with the largest number of articles, and most cited articles. In addition, the VOSviewer software was used to build bibliometric networks. With this research, we understand that we are improving our perception of air quality in quantitative terms; however, the numbers are still low when compared to research involving air quality and population health.
