Educação Ambiental e veganismo como forma de questionamento sobre o modo de produção de alimentos

Abstract

Veganism as an ideology aims to prevent the exploitation of animals, questions food production methods, and encompasses sustainability agendas. Its relationship with environmental education occurs at different levels and aspects since these fields are interconnected. The central objective of this work was to investigate and analyze the understandings of producers of animal-free foods from a city in the South of Minas Gerais regarding the relationship between environmental education and veganism. Therefore, through semi-structured interviews, we sought to gain a better understanding of these understandings, characterizing and analyzing their implications. Through data categorization and analysis, we were able to comprehend that veganism as an ideology holds great potential as a way to question the food production mode, such as agribusiness. It is also noteworthy, based on the data, that there is a significant gender association with veganism, and the views on environmental education among the interviewees are mostly conservationist.
