Abstract: Music Education for Sustainability proposes a paradigm shift in music teaching, connecting it to human and environmental well-being. This essay explores the potential of this art in promoting sustainability, using concepts of ecological literacy, acoustic ecology, and education for sustainability. It addresses different perspectives on music, from Rousseau to Schafer, arguing that it transcends art and becomes fundamental to human experience. It advocates for a multidimensional music education, encompassing philosophical, psychological, and sociological aspects. Sustainability is discussed based on concepts from Orr, Naess, and Sterling, integrating ecological literacy and environmental ethics. It is argued that this approach can promote sound awareness, critical listening, and environmental responsibility. The conclusion is that, despite implementation challenges, it offers a promising path to form more conscious individuals who are attuned to the environment.
