Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the construction of student representations as a promoter of learning and an assessment tool during science classes, based on a strategy proposal inspired by multiple representations. The didactic approach was based on the construction, review and refinement of 6th year students' representations about the internal structure of planet Earth. The analysis of students' productions revealed that the construction of representations helps in the elaboration of meanings and allows monitoring and evaluating the instructional process, based on previous knowledge and measuring them to overcome mistakes.
