CONCEPTIONS ABOUT CANCER AND ITS TREATMENT IN THE HOSPITAL CONTEXT

Abstract

ABSTRACT This current study had as purpose to investigate which are the acquirements the patients from university hospital of Santa Maria, with chronic mielóide leukemia (CML), witch use the medicine imatinib mesylate (IM), commercially named as Glivec, and had about its disease, about the treatment and the medicine. This investigation is through the intervention of a pharmaceutical interacting actively with the patient. The data were obtained by means of questionnaires and interviews applied during the year 2009. Based on a research were made informative folders, after distributed, amongst explanations and other practical artefacts to facilitate learning. The positioning about the disease and the medicine made clear the necessity to invest more precisely in the monitoring and mainly in the education of the patients, by means of pharmaceutical care to the treatment can be effective, as is wished.
