Abstract

This study analyzed the meanings attributed to physical and sports activities (PAE) practiced in public spaces in Pelotas/RS. It was a descriptive study carried out in two intentionally selected locations in the urban area of the municipality, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight people who frequented the spaces. The results were divided into two categories: "Senses and meanings attributed to practices" and "Management of public spaces". We found that the fun associated with PAE practices allows individuals to enjoy the activities fully. We found a desire for social interaction and belonging to a group and a search for general health improvement and disease prevention. We would also like to point out that there is a need to improve these spaces, especially in terms of lighting and quality of bicycle paths and implementing projects that encourage their use, contributing to the practice of PAE.
