Assuming that leisure practice is impaired in the life of someone living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), this study investigated how education for leisure - through Sociocultural Animation (ASC) - could provide subsidies for empowerment of such individuals in their free time. Therefore, we have established the following goal: understand the concepts and practices of leisure held by PLWHA, analyzing possibilities and limits of ASC to encourage access to leisure by these people. From the perspective of action research, we developed the formation of 19 people in Londrina-PR, taking as its programmatic basis the cultural contents to leisure. In a context mediated through ASC, education for leisure contributed to the recognition of the participants' free time, considering that the emancipation of PLWHA happens predominantly by addressing the stigmata and socioeconomic barriers faced by them.
