The study aims to identify how women participated in Porto Alegre’s rowing associations in the transition of the 19th century to the 20th century. An information collection was carried out in historical sources, such as: commemorative and sportive albums and magazine. Inequality was perceived between the meaning of the reproduction of the masculine and feminine roles, each one complying distinct functions. Rowing practice was for selected men, but dissuaded to the women, which performed behind-scenes and were relegated to an opacity that starts being changed as women conquered great visibility in sports.Downloads
