Abstract

The object of analysis in this article is the State of Israel, its implantation, its political-ideological orientation - Zionism - and the recent state policy of the governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu (1996 to 1999, 2009 to 2021 and 2022 to date). We believe that in view of the new conflicts in the Middle East, it is important to revisit an analysis like this in the field of International Relations in order to elucidate some points that have already been debated in the literature and others that are still little known in Brazilian studies on the subject. We work with the following hypothesis: the establishment of the State of Israel in Palestine is a process that began with the advent of the Zionist political movement in Europe at the end of the 19th century, which set up a
colonizing political unit in the region after the end of World War II and then it expanded with the aim of conquering the entire territory, eliminating the native population. Our focus in this article is not the so-called Palestinian question, which would address both sides of the conflict, but rather the State of Israel, whose "nature" - according to our hypothesis - is impregnated with a policy of extermination. In our analysis, we used studies by authors (secondary sources) who have dedicated to research the history of the Palestinian question and the State of Israel, the Zionist movement, the wars and diplomatic relations surrounding the conflict in the Middle East and the Netanyahu governments.
