The research aimed to investigate the implementation of the First Childhood Square in the city of Recife. The article contextualizes this public leisure policy and analyzes the approaches and differences between the planning and execution stages of the project. It is qualitative research, conducted through documentary analysis, observations, and cartographic descriptions. In this sense, cartography allowed for recording objective elements about the structuring of the site, the possibilities of interaction among individuals, and the articulation of the childhood square as an urban space for socialization. Approaches between policy planning and implementation were identified, as well as gaps and the need for structural adjustments. It is considered, therefore, that management and social control are fundamental elements for the implementation and continuity of the childhood square project.
