This theoretical essay aims to understand sport as a leisure possibility for women, both in the current scenario and as a proposition for its practice. To do this, it uses a bibliographical review using studies that contribute to the desired reflections and answers, in the light of historical-dialectic materialism. Leisure is a modern phenomenon that approaches activities related to human development, such as body culture and sport. Sport, a modern institution that accompanies the capitalist mode of production, has as its model and reference male patterns of movement and performance and presents itself differently for men and women in today's society. The article concludes that sport, historically and currently, is not enjoyed as a leisure practice by women. To this end, it is necessary to transform reified sport in capitalist society.
