Abstract

Historically present in a region where the fishing form itself an main economic activity, São José do Norte, as others points of the Laguna dos Patos, suffered a transformation in its ways of acting and thinking the nature along the 20th century. From the craft and familiar fishing to the industrial and harmful fishing, the nortenses seen disappear the plenty of fishes in their environment. With the use of the interpretations and the use of the Oral History method, the searching succeeds to glimpse the lost potential with the application of modern and massive techniques of environment exploration and the consequent death of the industrial fishing.
