A FREQUÊNCIA DE NÓDULO TIREOIDIANO DURANTE UMA CAMPANHA DA PALPAÇÃO CERVICAL NO MUNICÍPIO SÃO JOSÉ DO NORTE, RIO GRANDE DO SUL

Abstract

Abstract: In care of the Hospital of the Federal University of Rio Grande, in the last 10 years, it was observed that patients from the city San Jose North had thyroid nodule. The prevalence of nodules in the thyroid gland in the adult population is approximately 10%. It is important to exclude thyroid cancer, which occurs in 50-10% of cases. Objective: To investigate the incidence of thyroid nodule in the campaign of neck palpation and correlate their presence with socio-demographic characteristics of the community studied. Methodology: Examination of the cervical region in 229 people aged over 15 years, of both genders. We used a questionnaire as a tool for analysis of parameters: age, consanguinity, socioeconomic profile and medical history of thyroid gland. The data showed a higher frequency of nodules in the male population (7.64%), which was dominated by age was over 45 years, the socio-economic evidenced showed a low income plus low schooling, kinship (11, 54%) can be an indicator of increased frequency of thyroid nodule. It is concluded that the campaign's neck palpation is a tool that highlights the thyroid affections, because thyroid nodules are common in the clinic and there is a lack of respondents in relation to this gland.
