Abstract

This article deals with the consequences of the Iraq War, started in 2003 with the invasion of the United States in the country, to the Middle East and, specifically, to Iran. From an Offensive Realist perspective, this research aims to present how Iran, a traditional enemy of the United States, benefited from this war. As such, this work uses primary data to analyze the economic and strategic gains that the Iraq War provided to Iran. As a result, we observed that this conflict represented to Iran economic and strategic gains characterized by the proximity with its ancient rival introducing, therefore, a new organization of forces and new geopolitics in the Middle East region.
