Numerical simulation of wave action over a wave energy device of the oscillating wave column type

Abstract

In this work a wave energy extracting device of the oscillating water column type under the influence of regular waves of different periods was analyzed. Variations on the lip length and chamber size were performed. For this purpose the numerical code FLUINCO was used. This code is based on the RANS equations and the discretization is done using the semi-implicit two-step Taylor-Galerkin method. An arbitrary lagrangean-eulerian (ALE) formulation is used to enable solution of problems involving the displacement of the free surface. Some results were compared with those obtained using FLUENT program. The amplification (ratio between incident wave height and inside chamber free surface displacement), velocities distribution and velocity vectors are shown.
