Abstract

The WHO has published that obesity will be the biggest public health problem in the 20th. century. As much as in developed and developing countries, teenage obesity shows preoccupying indexes. The aim of this study was to identify the changes in body lean mass and body lean fat, according to different cut points to BMI, subescapular skinfold and triciptal skinfold. This is a cross-sectional study conducted in Pelotas – RS – Brazil, from July to October, 2000. The subjects were male adolescents who would complete 18 years old between January and December, 2000. We found that the body fat percent, body lean mass and body fat mass values have raised as the cut points to diagnose obesity have been raised.
