NEWBORN CARE IN INTENSIVE CARE: TRENDS OF NURSING PUBLICATIONS

Abstract

The paper broaches publications about attention to newborn hospitalized in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The objective of this study was to know the trends of nursing publications about care given to newborn in intensive care. It was realized a qualitative and descriptive research, in database of Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde, broaching the period between 2005 and 2009. The construction of four categories emerged from thematic analysis. These categories focus the care to newborn, namely: 1) beliefs and maternal feelings; 2) family education to assistance; 3) care humanization; and 4) care indicators. Publications that related the need of care to the newborn mother and family prevailed. In these publications it is understood the vulnerability of these actors and their importance in the execution of care. For conclusion, it is emphasized the involvement of nursing in the three basic pillars that guide its practice: health education, management and care, highlighting the low involvement of nursing in academic researches, considering that it is the professional category that most interact with newborn ones and their families.
