SUPERAMIGOS EM FORMATINHO #4 (EBAL), A COMIC FRIENDLY TO HERPETOLOGISTS: ANALYSIS IN LIGHT OF CULTURAL ZOOLOGY

The comics Superamigos em Formatinho was published by Ebal publishing company between 1978 and 1982. Volume # 04 (1979) has as its title story “The Destroyers of the Mind!”, centered on the Super Friends. From reading the comics, it was possible to detect elements linked to herpetology, which can be used in the classroom. The title story was originally published in The Super Friends # 8 (1977), narrating the Justice League's struggle to deactivate bombs planted by the villain Grax. One of the bombs was neutralized by the hero Bushmaster, allusive to Lachesis muta (Viperidae), the largest venomous snake from Americas. The character is a herpetologist who has studied species from all over the world, reproducing his skills in a bionic-technological suit. In the adventure, he used “wings” like those of Draco (Agamidae) to glide and feet like those of Basiliscus
(Corytophanidae). Another bomb was deactivated by Tuatara, name alluding to Sphenodon punctatus (Sphenodontidae). A pterodactyl (Pterosauria), a dinosaur similar to †Allosaurus (Allosauridae), and terrestrial and aquatic reptilian creatures also appear in the plot.
